Fairport dubbed “Crown Jewel of the Erie Canal” is located 9 miles east of Rochester. Fairport is a canal town that capitalizes on the recreational aspects of the Erie Canal. In 2005, Fairport was named “Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine.
Officially the name Fairport is the name of only the village. “Fairport” is often used to refer to a large portion encompassing the Town of Perinton as well. Perinton, the 34.6 sq. mile Town, which sits on the historic Erie Canal is named one of the top 100 best places to live by RelocateAmerica.com and designated a Trail Town USA by the American Hiking Association. You will find 1,000 acres of land for parks, open space, and trails. It hosts the picturesque Village of Fairport, with 15 diverse parks and the Crescent Trail.
THE VILLAGE OF FAIRPORT AND THE ERIE CANAL:
To take advantage of the prime location on the canal Fairport Village Landing was erected in 1977 it houses the public library, a meat market, a wine shop, a second-hand clothing shop, a craft store, a day spa, a gym, a barbershop, a small market, a dentist, a tool thrift shop, a ups store, a chiropractic office, a massage and wellness center, a dollar store, restaurants, and bars.

Packett’s Landing came about in the 1980’s it is also situated in the village of Fairport along the canal, and you can find small businesses including a foot spa, a hair salon, a yoga studio, several offices, restaurants, cafes and sandwich shops and the Colonial Belle a popular tour boat that offers canal cruises from Packett’s Wharf on the S bank of the Erie Canal.

The Cannery is the newest area to be developed in the village is located on Parce Avenue in the historic Old American Can Factory. You will find a lot of fun places to check out including:

On 9 Lift Bridge Lane E. located at milepost 361 of the CSX line is: Fairport Junction Train Viewing Platform the platform provides a safe and covered location for railfans.
The Bicentennial Canal Gateway Project Fairport improvements on the southwest bank included new accessible docks and Fairport Lift Bridge and Festival St on the northwest bank includes plans for a pedestrian corridor covered by overhead lighting, outdoor dining tables, fire pits in addition to an accessible kayak launch. #fairportontherise

You will find lots of festivals and events to attend in the Summer and Fall:
Car Cruz Night antique and classic cars, food, live music and tons of fun. (Tuesday Nights all Summer)
Farmer’s Market in the parking lot behind Bank of America at 58 S. Main St.. Runs 1st Sat May and closes on the Sat before Thanksgiving. 7 am-12, except on the weekend of Canal Days.

The most popular part of the canal runs from Rochester’s Genesee Valley Park to the village of Fairport.
A popular 30min bike ride on the canal runs from Route 250-to-Canandaigua Road.

Bordering Monroe County towns include East Rochester (East), Pittsford (West), and Penfield (North). Ontario County towns include Victor (South) and Macedon (East). Eastview Mall is in Victor, but only 4 miles from the center of Perinton. The hamlet of Egypt featuring Lollypop Farm is in the (SE) portion of town. Bushnell’s Basin is a picturesque hamlet in the (SW) portion of Town
